The art of the deal
The 2026 renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has turned into a $16.4 million public disaster after being rushed to completion via fast-tracked, no-bid contracts. Aimed at refreshing the monument for America's 250th anniversary, the basin was sprayed with an unconventional "American Flag Blue" polyurea coating that began bubbling and peeling within weeks while triggering massive algae blooms. The pool has since been partially drained so the contractor can perform emergency warranty repairs, leaving the iconic national landmark a messy construction zone.
