Netanyahu Not Welcome in NYC

Before the 2026 United Nations General Assembly, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that his administration had examined whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be arrested if he visited New York in light of the International Criminal Court's 2024 arrest warrant alleging war crimes committed during the Gaza conflict. Israel rejects the ICC's jurisdiction and denies the allegations.

Following a legal review, Mamdani concluded that New York City lacks the authority to enforce an ICC arrest warrant. Legal experts note that the United States is not a party to the Rome Statute establishing the ICC, and the enforcement of such warrants is not within the jurisdiction of a municipal government.
