The Real Cost of Real Food
U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. launched "The Real Food Show" in late July, a new cooking series intended to help Americans prepare healthy and affordable meals using everyday ingredients.
In the first episode, Kennedy suggests fish as an option for people who find meat too expensive. The featured meal includes salmon cakes. The series is based on the new 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, introduced earlier this year.
The guidelines place greater emphasis on protein-rich foods, dairy, fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, and whole grains, while recommending that Americans reduce their consumption of highly processed foods, refined carbohydrates, and added sugars.
The administration also introduced a new inverted food pyramid to illustrate the recommendations, prominently featuring protein foods, dairy, fruits and vegetables, with whole grains represented in the narrower lower section.
